Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Debt Validity

I received a collection letter for an account that I never had. I had 30 days to respond to dispute the collections, which I did. My question is, how long to the collection agency have to respond to my dispute letter? Do they have 30 days as well? Or if I tell them that I need a response within 30 days of receipt of my letter, do they have to abide by it and if they don't does that mean that they can not prove it is mine and it must be removed from my credit?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Debt Validity

Check your credit report, verify that this debt does not appear on your report, and if it does, dispute it. Otherwise, save your correspondence in case they ever try to sue you or report it on your credit.
