Debts for a deceased person with no money
My mother passed away 12-10-04 and was in the hospital for 2 weeks, she owed no one anything as she lived with us for the past 8 years. Her social security check paid for her medicine and care during the day. Now hospital and doctor bills are coming in, she had medicare and a supplement, but they are not paying it all. Who is responsible for these bills and do they have to be paid.

Only her estate, if there is one. If she left no assets, there is nothing to pay the bills with. Unless you agreed to pay the bills, you cannot be required to pay them.

Your mother's estate, such as it may be, is responsible for her final debts. If she had any accounts or other property of value, her estate should be entered into probate and the bills paid.
Write and let them know that she's deceased, and whether there's an estate to probate or not. If she died broke, they're simply out of luck.
You are not responsible unless you signed something where you agreed to be responsible for her debts.
