What happens when you get a default judgment

If there is a sue for $290.00 and don't appear in court what is a default judgment and what happens when you get one.

A default judgment says that there are no defenses to the complaint and that the defendant owes the plaintiff $290.00 plus court costs as a matter of law.

Then it's up to the plaintiff to collect on the judgment.
