Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I have a deliequint student loan from almost 20 years ago...I have not had any contact or notification from anyone about this in 10yrs. I had completely forgotten about it. Now all of the sudden I am being harrassed for tens of thousands of dollars. Half of which is penalties and interest...My question is can they garnish my wages now for that old a debt? Is there a statute of limitations on that. Also, I live in the state of Texas...

For most debts, the statute of limitations is four years. There is no statute of limitations for student loans.

No, they CANNOT garnish your wages. And if they sue you, you'll want to file an answer that pleads the statute of limitations.

When they call, simply tell them that you aren't going to pay the debt. Then hang up. If they call 1000 times, do this 1000 times.

And always ask the person calling (1) what his name is and (2) where you can write him a letter.
