Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Demand letter sent to me by my ex-fiance (lawyer)

My ex-fiance and I lived together for 10 months. No joint property or children. When we split up, he helped me out financially without expectance of repayment. No contracts signed,no verbal agreements of repayment. He has now sent me a demand letter for what he ''feels I owe him''.He is a lawyer and wrote the letter himself. Is this legal, and what can I do about it?

It's legal for him to represent himself. If he thinks you owe some money to him, he's free to pursue the matter. Proving it, from what you've written, may be very difficult for him. There's not much you can do, until he actually files a lawsuit against you.

You could write to him, saying only that you owe him nothing. I would not admit in that letter that he paid any of your obligations for whatever reason. He's obviously had second thoughts about helping you out financially, and wants his money back.
