Disputing Inaccurate things on credit report

Their are things on my credit report that should not be their. I need to know in order to make these things leagal doesn't it have to be a signed contract between my self and the credit grantor?

Write a letter to the credit reporting agency advising them that you dispute the entry on your credit report, and tell them why. Send the letter certified mail, return receipt requested. Keep a copy of the letter. You should send the letter to all three major credit agencies that reflect the inaccurate reports.
