Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Ex-Fiance Owes Me Money

My ex-fiance and I shared many bills together... all under my name. We are not together anymore and he promises to give me monthly payments to pay what he owes... i am worried that he could back out of his promise and I am left with his $5000+ debt (all under my name). is there anything I can do, such as draw a contract to where he has a legal obligation to me to pay off the debt. I do not want to ruin my credit.

If he is willing to sign a promissory note promising to pay you back over a period of time, you'll be in somewhat better shape. As it stands, you'd have to prove that he agreed to pay you back since only your name is on the credit card.

You can find the forms for promissory notes at most business supply stores.
