Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

extradition

I moved in 2001 from Tx. to Canada. My credit card was used for 2000.00 not by me. I told the credit card co. I was not in the country and would not pay. They wrote it off as a bad debt. Today,my elderly mother in Tx. was contacted by a woman who said she was an investigator and I was to be extridited and put in jail. I phoned the number they left my mother and they answered ''litigation'' A man said the charges with interest and legal fees were now 10,000.00 & if I didn't make them an offer by tomorrow the Canadian authorities would arrest me and I was to be extridited to the us for theft. Please advise. I didn't make the credit card charges, I do not have the money to make an offer and my mother is very upset and has severe heart problems

Re: extradition

Extradition applies to criminal offences and failure to pay a credit card debt is not criminal so long as you did not commit fraud. You should immediately contact the Texas Attorney General's office; links can be found at http://www.oag.state.tx.us/consumer/consumer.shtml

You should make a complaint about this unlawful attempt to get money from you; it might even be seen as attempted extortion by the collector, and that is a criminal offence.
