Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Friend's bounced check paid borrowed charge account.

Almost 2 yrs ago, my grandchild had a Dillard employee charge account. She allowed another employee to use if for a $500 charge because this ladie's account was not yet active & a sale was in progress. The lady paid with a $500 check. The check bounced. Dillards says my grandchiild owes this $500. They have not filed charges against the bad check writer, nor will they produce the bad check for my grandchild to take to police. She does not know how to contact this woman & neither women now work for Dillards. Who owes the $500 + fees? (Dillards added fees & interest & wants $750) What can my 22 yr old naive & unemployed college student granddaughter do?

Re: Friend's bounced check paid borrowed charge account.

Fortunately for your granddaughter's friend, Dillard's is not pressing criminal charges (mainly because the DA probably wouldn't accept it). The account was your granddaughter's and she is obligated to pay it. It is her responsiblity (not the store's) to collect the money from her friend. Get Dillard's to agree that when it is paid, she get the account info and hot check. Don't wait until the S/L expires.
