Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Fund Raiser
I had a fund raiser at the school at which I an employed. The school I am employed at okayed this fund raiser. I ordered candy and lollipops for my soccer team to sell. The candy and such was ordered in my name thru the school. They did not sell as well as we thought. The school and candy company are saying I am responsible for this debt since I ordered it and signed the receipt. Some of the girls on the soccer team have not turned in the money or the candy (over$1,000 worth). The school is saying that the girls are not responsible, but that I am. Can you help me get the right person who is responsible to pay this debt? I do not feel it is my responsibility as I am only an employee and I did not get any benefits from the fund raiser. Thank you.

Re: Fund Raiser
how did they approve the fund raiser? in writing? orally?
do you have a written policy regarding fund raisers?
Re: Fund Raiser
This is a little different from your earlier post.
You ordered the goods for the fund-raiser. Since you say "your soccer team" rather than the school's soccer team, your involvement is probably far more than a mere employee.
Unless the school instructed you to order the goods, more likely than not you will be responsible for the debt. The fact that the girls haven't repaid you, or that you didn't profit from the transaction, is immaterial.
