Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Garnishment of joint checking account after 5 year dispute of credit card debt?

A NJ Lawfirm has sent me a First Demand Letter on a debt older than 5 years on a credit card. No payment has been made nor agreements to make any payments on this debt has been verbally made or written for the past 5 years. I have no money, or assets to speak of. My current husband does have considerable money of which he added me to his checking account, last year. This is considered HIS account, and I rarely use it. Can the account be garnished or can they find this account by my SSN? No payment has been made on this account to credit card this is concerning.

Thank you for your time.

If they had taken a judgment against you, your husband's account could be subject to garnishment. But if it is only in the dispute stage, write back to them, by certified mail, stating that you dispute the debt, that limitations have run, and you are not to be bothered.
