Garnishment

I received a notice in the mail about garnishment of my wages; I thought that you could not have your wages garnished for a student loan in the state of Texas.DB

You are right. General creditors cannot garnish wages. Their threatening to do so is debt collection law violation. Wages can be garnished by the IRS, for student loans and for child support. That is it according the Texas constitution.

Wrong. Wages may be garnisheed by the IRS, for government-backed student loans, and for child support. General creditors cannot garnishee wages.
