Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Garnishment in Texas

I earn wages in the state of Kansas but my primary residence is in Texas. I own property in Texas. Can my Kansas wages be garnished to satisfy a judgment handed down several years ago in the state of Missouri ?

Re: Garnishment in Texas

Kansas law doesn't give you the protection that Texas law does. If you're paid in Kansas, you're vulnerable. If you're paid in Texas, they can't garnishee your current wages.

Understand that they may be able to serve a writ of garnishment on your Kansas employer and trap your wages before they're paid out.

I assume this is a civil judgment, and not taxes or child support. If the wages are paid in Kansas, then Kansas law prevails. If the wages are paid in Texas, then the garnishment can be stopped.
