Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Garnishment of wages/liens
I purchased a vehicle while married. I divorced my husband and the judge gave the vehicle to my x-husband. The vehicle has since been repossesed. The creditors are threatening to sue me, garnish my wages and put a lien against me for the uncollected balance. The creditor has stated that the divorce decree is not a legal document and does not exclude me from this debt. Is this true, can they do this to me?

Re: Garnishment of wages/liens
It's true that the divorce decree isn't binding on your creditors, and that they can look to you as well as to your ex for the money. They can't garnishee your wages for the debt, although they may take a judgment lien after a lawsuit for the debt.
