Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

guardian legal obligations

My mother is now residing in an Alh. center because of dementia. When I when went through her papers I found she owed over 10,000. in credit card debt. My mother has no money to pay these debts. Am I as her legal guardian and power of attorney under legal obligation to pay these debts.

No. You may become responsible for debts of your mother's estate only if you, personally as guardian and attorney-in-fact, negligently incur the debt in violation of your fiduciary duty.
