Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Harassed for hospital bill that's not mine
A year ago I received a telephone call from a doctor's office requesting payment for my ''recent hospital stay.'' I have NOT been in the hospital. We determined the info given him by the hospital had an incorrect DOB & SSN. Next: several months later I started received threatening phone calls from a collection agency. I explained I must have been a victim of identity theft, to no avail. Next: In early June I heard from an attorney stating I had 45 days to reply regarding this ''debt.'' I replied at length, had my reply notarized, and sent it via Certified Mail/Return Receipt Requested. I received the signed return receipt from this attorney several days thereafter. Today, I got this laughable reply: ''We have not heard from you...'' He is threatening legal action to collect this debt which is not mine. His allegation that I have not replied is clearly not true; I have the signed return receipt from his firm. I have been unjustly targeted and accused, and I've been lied to, despite my best efforts to recity this situation. I feel I am in need of legal counsel at this point, and would greatly appreciate any advice as to how I should proceed.

you may speak with an attorney regarding this as there may be an issue with the fiar debt collection act. what collection agency and who is the attorney?
