Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Harrassment

I have a guy who keeps calling me from a collection agency about a check written over 20 years ago for $24. I am sure I would have taken care of this. THe company the check is written to is no longer in business, and the bank that the check was from is no longer in existance either. I am not going to pay $124 for a $24 check written over 20 years ago that I am sure I took care of and this guy is calling everyone I know. How can I get him to stop? He cannot prove that I owe any money. He does not have a company nor a bank. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Harrassment

Send a letter to them, certified mail, return receipt requested, telling them to cease and desist from any any all communications with you. IF, after they receive that letter, they continue to call you, they have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and you have a claim against them.
