Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

If you are an heir, does that mean you are owner?

If I inherited a piece of property along with my sister, are we considered to be owners (the owner was my grandmother who is deceased)? (My sister sent in an earlier question). We were totally unaware of this property or that we had inherited it until a few years ago and by then the taxes were more than we could afford. We can't pay them now but neither do we want our credit ruined. Thank you.

Ordinarily, tax lawsuits do not go on your credit record. You will have a record of being a defendant in a lawsuit if anybody check up on you. If you want more information, please contact me by e-mail.

Unless the property has been transferred into your name, you are not the owner. You can always disclaim an inheritance.
