Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Hospital debt.

I've been told that making a minimum payment to a hospital to start to pay down a debt has to be accepted and can forstall the debt being sent to a third party and dinging my credit score. I'm not trying to dodge the debt. Just don't have the $400 plus they're demanding. Is there a Texas law that can help out?

Re: Hospital debt.

That's an urban myth. The only amount a creditor must accept, or forego the claim, is the full amount owed.

If you write to them, and let them know that you can't pay the $400, but you can pay $XXX and would if that's acceptable, might get matters moving in the direction you want.
