Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Please Help!

Hi! My husband and I have aquired quite a bit of credit card dept. We are still pretty young and i would like to get rid of it. We haven't been paying on the credit cards for about a year. I was unemployeed and just had a baby so we couldn't afford to pay. We have been recieving letters saying that they are now sent to collection agencies. I am in a postion to start paying them again but I don't want to pay to the collection agencies. I would rather pay to the credit card companies. My husband does't want to pay them because he says that the bad credit is already on our report and even if we paid them off it would not make our credit any better. Is this true? And if so what can we do to make it better. I would really like to buy a house but I can't with bad credit. Any help would be great! Thank you!

If you want to buy a house, you will likely need to settle the debt with the collection agencies or the credit card companies. Usually this will require some type of lump sum payment. Sometimes they will take payments, but they will want it paid off in less than a year. Your plan will take time and credit repair claims are risky at best.
