Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
My husband was let go from his job in December of 2009, he was making about $68,000 a year.
Needless to say it took a while for him to find a new job and he is making about $36,000 a year,
so our income dropped drastically. We got way behind in our credit cards and now a couple of
them are filing suit. We live in the state of Texas, what can they get from us? His current
paychecks are direct deposited, should we close our bank account? How hard is it to file
for bankruptcy in Texas and how expensive is it?

Its not difficult at all to file for B/R and it doesn't have to be very expensive. Yes, get your money out of all your banking accounts, and have your husband stop the direct deposit of his paychecks. What can they get? That's a long reply. Try to Google "exemptions from debt collection in Texas" (there's a long laundy list of things that are exempted).
