Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

My husband was just given a judgment against him concerning a credit card dept. The court found that he is to pay over $20,000 to the dept collection agency. He was laid off from his job and his unemployment has ran out. We cannot afford to pay this. What options does he have to settle for a lower amount? Is there another option other than paying this huge amount?
