Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

My husband has been served for an unpaided account. He has to respond with in a certain period, what is it that we respond to, the fact that we received the document? Also, if we don't respond we get a default judgment, what is that and what does it entail. What happens if we can not pay the amount we are being sued for?

always file an answer..and because one normally does not know if the claim is valid..deny the claim as stated..be sure to get a notary to notarize a sworn denial..e.g. interest/penalties/not giving credit for payment..or even the merchandise not worth what charged..but then be sure to go to Court when you are told of the date...If they get a judgment, they could garnish accounts/get nonexempt property..etc..or call a lawyer..in your area
