Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Judgement on Credit Report
I have a judgement on my credit report from a chargeoff in 1998 or 1999. The judgement was listed on my report in 2003. Has the period for the judgement to drop off my credit report passed? They listed this judgement on my title for my home? I bought the home May 2005. Is this legal? If not, what can I do to have them remove this information off my title?

Re: Judgement on Credit Report
A judgment is a public record and it will stay on your credit report as long as it is an active judgment. Generally judgments are valid for ten years and then may be renewed for ten years ad infinitum. The only way to remove the judgment is to pay it and obtain a release of judgment from the judgment creditor and file it of public record.
