Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Judgements & Bankruptcy

My husband had an accident and we had no insurance. We were unable to pay the bill and now the hospital has sent the bill to a collection agency. They are threatening to file a judgement. My husband's name is not on the deed to my house, but can they file a lien on my house? If they can, does the lien last as long as I own my home?

No..they have no claim against you and if the win..none against your home..BUT object to the charges and if sued, file an answer that the charges are excessive..more than medicare or an insurance plan pays...

They have no legal claim against your home. Now, they may file an abstract of judgment (assuming they win a judgment) to place a lien on all property within the county where filed. If they don't revive the judgment after 10 years, or resuscitate the dormant judgment after 12 years, the judgment lien is null and void.
