Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Judgements and seizures of assets

We had a judgement put against us for an unpaid hospital bill. We recieved a letter from the sheriff's department advising us that they would seiz all of our assets to satisfy the judgement. What can they take including personal possesions. Our home is homesteaded and some of the assets are from an inheritance.

Re: Judgements and seizures of assets

They can't take your homestead, or your automobiles (one for each member of your family), insurance, retirement accounts, personal possessions up to $35,000 in value, kitchen utensils, etc. They can take artwork, bank accounts, corporate shares, etc.
