Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

lawer buys debt

A New York law office bought my debt that the original debtor was no longer trying to collect. The law office now wants to sue me over the debt. What are my rights and/or responsibilties in this situation?

If the account is more than 4 years old, you can't be sued in TX. However, the collector can still seek payment because there is a debt. The collector must follow the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Texas Debt Collection Act.
