i leave in texas and a payday loan company is threatening to sue me for an unpaid payday loan from 2003. is this legal?

I assume that it's been more than four years since you made a payment or promised to make a payment.

When you get served, file an answer that pleads (1) laches and (2) the statute of limitations.

Between now and then, stop talking to them on the phone. JUST HANG UP. Every time. 100% of the time.
