legal liability for adult child?
My son was 23 when he suffered brain trauma in an accident. He had an outstanding debt. Am I, as his mother (with whom he lives) responsible for this debt?

You asked about the debt of an adult who had a traumatic brain injury.
It depends. If the adult had assets then those assets to the point they exceed necessary living expenses should be used to pay the legal liabilities.
But it also depends on what type of debt it is. Many debts are extinguished on or deferrable on once a person is disabled (sometimes this requires total permanent disability and other times just an temporary disability.)
As a rule, if the debt cannot be collected from the person then the debt goes away unless 1) someone agreed to be responsible for the debt (such as by co-signing for a debt, or 2) someone agrees to be responsible for the debt.
