Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Letter of discovery
Several month ago I recieved a summons from the court saying I was being seued by a credit card company. I responded to the court by stating that my only means of income was social security and had no assets. Now I received a letter from the attorney wanting to set up a mediation. I recieved another letter saying asking a lot of quistions to many to write down. They are wanting to know drivers licence, social security number and do I have a safetydeposit box. They said this was sent certified and it was not. I can not afford an attorney. What else do I do? What is a letter of discovery?

Re: Letter of discovery
It is somewhat difficult to know what stage of the proceedings you are in, but a party has the right to request discovery -- that is to ask questions and to ask you to produce documents about issues relevant to the case. A lawyer knows which requests and questions are legal and which ones aren't. Without a lawyer, you are at a disadvantage, obviously.
If your social security is being deposited into a checking account, and they get a judgment against you, they might be able to garnish your checking account.
