How long can suite remain active?

I was served papers for a balance of a repossessed car balance in April 2008. I hired an attorney and only heard from her a couple of times. Now I haven't heard from the credit union or the lawyer in over a year. Is there a time limit on the suit, or can they continue at a later date to file judgement?

call the atty..do not wait to hear from her..and if she has no news..go to court where case is ..or call the court and ask where it is..many cases are online..so try that..
