Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Marrying someone with bad credit

Is it true that if two people marry and one of them has bad credit - the other person's credit is soon tarnished? Would another spouse's bad credit affect the other from obtaining car loans, etc...

Re: Marrying someone with bad credit

Not if you are VERY careful about maintaining separate accounts during marriage. All property acquired during marriage, except by gift or inheritance is community property, regardless of the name on the property. However, if you keep your property separate from the spouse, then a prior creditor cannot reach it for garnishment or execution. It should not affect your credit as long as the accounts remain separate.
