Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Medical bill

After 3 years a local hospital is claiming that we still owe $1,100 on a surgical bill which they've just billed us for out of the blue. We had no idea we owed it and we're not sure it's valid. Employer insurance company has changed and hard to determine validity of claim. Can they report us to collection agency and affect our credit?

Re: Medical bill

You'll have to challenge the validity of the bill by certified mail. They can refer the account to a collection agency for collection, or report you to a credit bureau if the bill is legitimate.
