Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Medical Debt Collections in Texas

I am in the midst of a divorce and my soon to be ex is stalling payment on a doctor bill for my daughter. On the form at the doctors office I indicated that he was responsible for the debt. After abt six months of failing to recieve payment from him...the doctor turned over the account to a collections agency and they are going after me. They say they have now reported this debt against me to credit reporting agencys. Is this legal in the state of Texas?

Re: Medical Debt Collections in Texas

As a parent, you are responsible for your child's bills. When you informed the Dr.'s office that your husband would pay and he didn't, they have the right to collect from you. You can then try to collect from your soon to be ex in the divorce.
