money still owed on credit card

I have a gas card that I owe $476.00 in 12-1999. If I don't pay it....how long will it stay on my credit report? Do I have to pay it in order for it to get off my credit report? I ask because it is now 02-2007 and it is still on my report. I am confused on the ''7 years and it should get off your credit report.''

Seems like the 7 years ran this past December. I would dispute it in writing with each of the Credit reporting agencies.
