Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

My mothers medical bills

M mother passed away last January. Two or three months ago I started getting a bill from one of her doctors. They have threatened to turn it over to a collection agency. She left no estate. Am I liable for her medical bills.

Re: My mothers medical bills

You are not responsible for your mother's medical bills unless you had specifically signed a document stating that you would be responsible if she failed to pay.

Write back to the doctor and let him know that your mother is deceased, that there is no estate, and that you are not responsible.

If he turns it over to an agency to collect against you, contact an attorney that handles Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) matters because that action would be a direct violation.
