Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

What can the National Arbitration Forum do to me?

The attorney for my Chase Credit Card old debt has filed a claim with the National Arbitration Forum. I received a letter from the Mann Bracken law firm with locations in GA, VA, NC, TN stating that a claim was filed with the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) regarding my old Chase Bank Card debt, and that I must respond. I have no idea what to do here. I am worried that they will garnish my wages and/or bank account. If they can do so, how do I stop it? I beseech anyone with legal knowledge of this type of situation to please help me understand what I should do. I live in Texas. Thank you!

You need to hire an attorney. NAF is very biased in favor of credit card companies. This is not something you can handle on your own. General creditors like Chase cannot garnish wages in Texas - that is in the Texas constitution. Even if they win the arbitration, they still have to file a petition to confirm it in order to get a judgment; its not until then that they can take any collection actions. At the confirmation hearing is another opportunity to defend. These are defensible if you hire someone familiar with them. A consumer lawyer can also review and see if you have any claims you can assert against them.
