Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Outstanding Credit Card Debt

I have an outstanding credit card balance that has quadrupled from what I charged to what they are now telling me I owe. I have found out that they are trying to serve me with a summons. I just want to make reasonable arrangements to pay what I charged. What can I do? Lawyers/collection office is very difficult they yell and threaten and don't let me get a word in edgewise so I end up hanging up. I am seperated and make $13.00 an hour at my full time job and support my 3 kids. I just need some advise before someone shows up at my doorstep and takes me away. Thank You.

Re: Outstanding Credit Card Debt

First of all, relax, no one is going to show up and take you away. Some of the charges may be legit interest accrual, some may not be. Is this a current debt, or an old one? If there was no activity on the card for more than 4 years, they could be barred by Statute of Limitations. Write a certified letter, asking them to substantiate the charges on the account. Don't acknowledge the debt in the letter, merely ask them to substantiate the charges.
