Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I owe Chase Bank $14,200 dollars in charge card debt. I would like to stop paying on this debt and turn it over to a debt consolidation company and let them work out a lower settlement for me to pay. My question is... Can Chase Bank go to court and have a lien put on my home for not paying this debt?

Chase can sue you and get a judgment. They can then "abstract" the judgment and record it in the county where you live (at the county clerk's office).

But a judgment lien doesn't attach to your homestead. When the time comes that you want to sell your home free and clear of the judgment lien, take a look at 52.0012 of the Texas Property Code; you'll file a special affidavit with the county clerk. Here's a link:
