If I owe a credit card company but really don't want to pay or file bankruptcy what should I do? If they sue can I scare them away?

I don't what you mean by scare them away. If you are truly judgment proof -- no non-exempt assets, including financial accounts; then I suppose you could ignore them; knowing that they could take a default and then execute on the judgment.
If you are not judgment-proof, then hire a lawyer to reconcile it in a way you can live with.
