i paid for a truck from my father-in-law when me and my ex split my father-in-law said i owed him more money on truck and didnt give me a title so i sold the motor out of it and scraped the rest can they press charges on me for theft

If the truck was in someone else's name, then you have destroyed property that did not belong to you.

I look on this website and on www.avvo.com for a good criminal attorney and keep his/her phone number in your pocket in case you get picked up.

I suspect that your father-in-law is "punishing" you for the separation. I'd ask him for the title again. I'd give him some money for his signature on the title.
