Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Parent responsible for childs debts

I have moved from my hometown (in Texas) to another city in Texas. My 20 year old son has chosen to stay behind and live on his own. Recently, without my knowledge or permission, he checked himself into a hospital emergency room for detox, then left a few hours later when the hospital was slow to help him. The hospital has sent me a bill for more than $1,000. Am I legally responsible for this debt, assuming that he received some level of treatment at the hospital? Or, is my son responsible for it?

I don't see how you can be held liable for that debt unless you agree.

He's over 18 and therefore fully responsible for his debts, unless you co-sign or otherwise present yourself as guaranteeing payment.
