Petsmart Plan - Banfield Company

Can a company legally renew a contract every year for a full year? We purchased a puppy plan from Petsmart and we've had the plan for a couple of years without signing any type of renewal but just paying the monthly fee and now when we are trying to cancel they want us to pay a big fee for breaking the contract.

I don't know what the contract says. If it says it's automatically renewable for 1 year unless cancelled, then they can charge you. Read the contract.
