Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Prior debt before marriage

In Texas, am I responsible for my current wife's debt that was accrued prior to marriage? I have an electric company adding her unpaid previous balance from another address to my current bill. Two supervisors both stated that I am responsible even though it was accrued a year before we were married. Is this legal?

Re: Prior debt before marriage

it is illegal and a violation of FDCPA of Texas and US...they can be sued for that, include atty fees, and possible treble damages..in my opinion..but a lawsuit would be expensive since they have deep pockets
