Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Hi there, I have a question regarding payday loans. I unfortunately had to get one of these several months back (big mistake). I must've unknowingly left the box 'checked' where your info is sent to '3rd parties'. A couple of days later, I had a deposit of $290 from an unknown company (DJR Group). I googled them, found some very disturbing info about them. I tried to call them to no avail. They're automated system doesn't take you anywhere, it's a cycle of 'call-waiting hell'. I went ahead and put a stop-payment on them through my bank because they were highly suspicious to me. Fast forward to now, I got a phone call, an 'unknown number' phone call from a 'Stephen Hopkins of the Proccessing and Summons Division' of Harris County saying he got ahold of my husbands employer, called their HR dept and told them an officer would be there at the start of his shift to serve him on account of 'check fraud activity and breach of contract'. Of course my heart raced, my husband didn't like the sound of it either. 'Mr. Hopkins' left an 800# to call and sort out the details with. We of course called the number which took me to 718-863-9325 which is 'Capital' of Chandler, AZ. There was a 'Mrs. Durant' who said it was indeed regarding DJR group and they want $350 and she would send a ADR (?) to 'stop' said summons being sent. We made a voice-recorded agreement to pay $100 now and $250 in 2 weeks. I've researched the 2nd company (capital) and I'm coming across same disturbing posts. Most commonly saying they are debt collectors and will use threats to get their money and they are grasping at straws hoping anyone who falls for them will send them money. I want to know if I'm being taken? And would a company really sue over $350??? I'm very confused and feel very violated and I don't know what to do. I don't know if I should put a stop payment on these guys now? Thank you so much for you time and knowledge.

They won't sue you for $350.00.
Put in stop payments on EVERYTHING.
If they call again, don't talk to them.
Consider contacting a law firm that specializes in suing creeps like this:
