Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
I received a letter from a collection agency alleging I owe almost $1k for a credit card I never had. They indicated it was a total of fees, interest, and the original charge-off amount. Immediately, I figured somebody else had opened the card under my name so I had a copy of my report sent to me from each of the bureaus. Interestingly enough, there is no record of this debt/collection on any of my reports. I asked the company to send verification of debt, but they have not done so and seemingly refuse to. Also, they recently sent another letter indicating they will offer an 80% discount as a one-time offer, but it is only good for 30 days. Again, this isnt showing up on any of my reports. I am not sure what can be done about this. How do I get this to go away?

Hard to answer with so little info..!) file suit against the "collection agency" in justice of peace small claims court, ask for damages of loss of time and harassment up to $10,000 ..but if JP will not take the case, 2) see a lawyer to make demand and sue...and apparently you did not respond in writing but by phone..but if in writing, then you have proof of false claim..
Most lawyers will not take the case without at least a deposit to cover costs..but call us if no luck
