Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Does refusal of payment cancel my debt?

We called our credit card company direct to pay in full an account that we have had on a credit counsel program. They said that they could not receive payment directly from us. It was their company policy. We would have to have our credit counsel pay in our behalf. I informed them of taping their refusal and that we viewed this as cancellation of debt. Does it cancel my debt? It is very frustrating to try to pay a debt and be refused. Thanks.

Re: Does refusal of payment cancel my debt?

Having engaged a credit counseling service, the creditor is obligated to work with them. You are trying to go around them, and therefore the credit card company can rightfully refuse your offer of payment. It does not cancel your debt. You'll have to work with the counseling service or terminate their authority as your agent.
