Can a reposessed motor home result in a lien on home?

My mother recently allowed her motor home to be reposessed. My father had mounting medical bills and they just could not afford it. The bank sold the $40,000 vehicle for $18,000 at auction. Can the bank put a lien on my mother's home for the remainder? She did not use it as collateral. My father passed away in May. Can the bank take the insurance money or garnish her social security?

The bank can put a lien on your mom and dad's property. They cannot take the homestead, but when mom passes away, it's no longer homestead and could be available to satisfy the debt. There are alternatives to these possibilities. You might want to speak with an estate planning ATTORNEY.
