Repossesion of a care

i had a car repoed two years ago. they contacted me and advised me that my case was going to be filed with the irs. is that legal for them to file that information with the irs to garnish my wages.

Your income cannot be garnished without a court order. It is unclear from your question whether you were sued. An entity can't just "file a case" with the Internal Revenue Service and have your wages garnished. If there was no court case, its possible that a collection agent is attempting to intimidate you into paying. Good luck.

What the collection agency is trying to tell you is that they think they can disclose to the IRS the unpaid portion of your debt which they think is income to you. Tell them to send you the w-2.
