Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Repossion Storage Laws

What are the laws regarding storage of a reposed vehicle?

I was told by a repo-man that if your vehicle is repossed, the finanice company is ablogated to pay for storage fees to the person in possesion of the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased by my mother (who was also makeing the payments), who died before paying it off, and father refused to pay for it. I had the car in my possesion for three (3) years prior to the actually repossion. I never hide the vehicle and I disclosed my address to the finance company. The finance company continued to send me mailings regarding recalls on the vehicle. Can I request reimbursement fee for three (3) years of storage? The finance company has referred this debt to a lawyer. They request $2,500 immediately.

Re: Repossion Storage Laws

Since you did not own any interest in the car, you have no claim with respect to the car. You could have returned the car to them anytime. On the other hand, since you are not on the note, you have no obligation for the debt.
